Dear McKenzie Lake Families,
As we move forward into the spring season, I would like to share some important updates and invitations from McKenzie Lake School.
During our recent School Council meeting on Wednesday evening, we discussed the pressing need to replace our West Playground within the next couple of years. This project is a significant undertaking that requires substantial fundraising efforts from our school community. To support this endeavor, the School Council has decided to allocate a portion of the funds received from our upcoming Casino fundraiser to the new playground. However, we still need your help! We are seeking volunteers for the fundraising event on the dates noted below, and we sincerely appreciate anyone who is available to donate their time to support these efforts. Additionally, the School Council will be organizing other fundraisers specifically aimed at financing the construction of the new playground.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our School Council for their unwavering support of student learning at McKenzie Lake School. In addition to their efforts towards the playground project, they have also played a pivotal role in confirming a lacrosse residency for students in the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. Furthermore, they have facilitated the purchase of a computer cart, which will significantly enhance student access to technology resources.
We also have an exciting event to look forward to on Thursday, April 25 - the Spring Concert for Grade 1 & 2 families! Each family with a child in Grades 1 or 2 will receive two tickets to the evening performance. Tickets will be sent home with students on Monday. Doors will open at 5:45pm, and the show will start promptly at 6:00pm. Due to ticket restrictions for the evening performance, we are also offering a Thursday afternoon performance for families, with no tickets required. The afternoon performance will commence at 1:15pm.
We hope to see all of our Grade 1 & 2 families at the Spring Concert as we celebrate the talents and achievements of our students. Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community.
Our Grade 4 students would like to thank Mr. Ambrozy for visiting their classes last week as a guest speaker. Mr. Ambrozy is an Indigenous Education Specialist in the CBE, and a parent of the MLS community. Students shared that during his presentation he explained treaties and the Indigenous and European relationships well. They learned that treaties are conversations and agreements that lead to working together between groups and that settlers initiated the treaties. We would like to thank him for supporting an extension of our of grade 4 students learning.
Sincerely,
Dayna McComish
