Dear McKenzie Lake Families,
This week, our Grade 2 students hosted a special assembly to celebrate their learning in Social Studies. The students captivated their audience with a variety of activities including song, art, storytelling, miming, and shadow puppets. Ms. Kvicala even encouraged parents to join in while students sang a Cree and Cherokee song about a mischievous raven. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our Grade 2 teachers for their dedication in helping the students prepare to share their knowledge, and to all the parents who took the time to attend.
Our Grade 4 students connected their classroom learning to real-world experiences by visiting the landfill. They discovered where the contents of their black, blue, and green bins go, as well as learning about leaching, composting, and the strategies used at the landfill to prevent garbage from blowing away. If your child is in Grade 4, ask them about the "Secret Agent" level they achieved during their field trip!
Spring Concert
Our Grade 3-5 students have been working diligently to prepare for the upcoming Spring Concert. Due to the capacity restrictions of our gymnasium, we will be hosting two performances to accommodate those who cannot attend the evening performance due to extracurricular commitments, as well as to adhere to our 2-ticket per family limit.
In the past, we have been able to grant additional ticket requests for the evening performance. However, due to the large number of students in Grades 3-5, we are unable to offer extra tickets this year. Each family will receive two tickets, which will be sent home with the oldest child the week of the performance.
- Thursday, April 24 – 1:00pm – No ticket required
- Thursday, April 24 – 6:00pm – Restricted to 2 tickets per family
Lost and Found
Teachers have been taking their classes to the Lost and Found to collect personal items, yet many items remain unclaimed. Families have until Friday, April 11 to visit the Lost and Found and retrieve their belongings before they are donated.
Are You Moving?
It's hard to believe, but we are already in the early stages of planning for the 2025-2026 school year. If your family has moved outside the McKenzie Lake School designated zone, you will need to complete a Transfer Request Form to register at your new school for September. Please email the office to request a form.
If your child will NOT be returning to McKenzie Lake School for Grades 1-5 next year, please inform the school office, by email, as soon as possible so that we can better plan for the upcoming school year. (mckenzielake@cbe.ab.ca)
All Grade 5 students are automatically designated to their assigned school for Grade 6, based on their current home address.
