Dear McKenzie Lake Families,

Last Friday morning, McKenzie Lake School encountered a brief power outage, causing a stir of excitement among students and staff. Although power was restored within 20 minutes, our phone lines have been affected, and we are currently working to resolve the issue. In the meantime, if you need to contact the school on Monday and are unable to reach us by phone, please email your request to mckenzielake@cbe.ab.ca or directly to the classroom teacher.

This week's snowfall provided ample opportunities for collaborative activities, including rolling large snowballs in the fields, which are expected to endure into next week's warmer temperatures. With the anticipated thaw, muddy puddles will become prominent, prompting us to advise all students to carry an extra pair of clothing in their backpacks, just in case.

In other news, Mrs. Horder/Baxter's grade 5 class has selected the Salvation Army as their Social Action project for the year. A representative from the Salvation Army addressed all grade 5 students this week, emphasizing the importance of volunteerism and providing insights into the organization's history. Grade 5 students will be selling individual bags of chips and popcorn to fellow students on Wednesday, April 10, with chips priced at $1 and popcorn at $2.50. Kindly ensure that your child brings exact change.

Furthermore, the highly anticipated solar eclipse is scheduled for Monday, during which CBE has instructed all students to remain indoors from 11:50 am to 1:50 pm. To accommodate this, our lunch hour routines have been adjusted to allow students to enjoy outdoor recess from 11:20 to 11:40 am, followed by lunch in their classrooms from 11:40 am to 12:00 pm.

2024-2025 School Planning – Have You Moved?

As we begin planning for the 2024-2025 school year, we ask that families let the school know if they are planning on attending a different school for the upcoming school year.  Please rely to this email, if your family will not be attending MLS next year.

If your family has moved out of our designated areas, you are required to register at your new community school.  We can help you complete the Student Transfer form required to complete this process.  If you are moving outside of the CBE, a form is not required but we appreciate being informed of your intentions to move with as much notice as possible as it helps us to plan for required staffing and resources for the upcoming school year.

Grade 1 & 2 Spring Concert

Our Grade 1 & 2 students have been working hard with Ms. Kvicala preparing for their upcoming Spring Concert performance, Thursday, April 25 at 6:00pm. Due to capacity restrictions of our gymnasium, each Grade 1&2 family will receive 2 tickets to the evening performance.  Tickets will be sent home with students the week of the performance.  Students will also be offering a Thursday afternoon performance for families unable to attend that evening, or those having additional families members wanting to attend that exceed the evening 2 ticket limit.

Yearbook Orders

Each year McKenzie Lake School creates a yearbook highlighting portraits of each students in each class, in addition to collage pages with photos from throughout the school year.  Yearbook purchases are optional to families and can be order through LifeTouch at ybpay.lifetouch.ca for $20.00.  Yearbooks will arrive at the end of June and be distributed to students who have ordered. (McKenzie Lake Yearbook ID code: 14683924)
