Dear McKenzie Lake Families,

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the volunteers who helped support two of our Grade 5 classes on their field trip to the Leighton Centre and our first Scholastic Book Fair of the year. Your support made these wonderful opportunities for our students possible. A special thank you goes to Mrs. Knox, who organizes the book fairs at MLS each year, including one coming up in the spring during the March Parent Conferences.

This past week, some of our Grade 5 students participated in patrol training and are excited to begin supporting our MLS families by helping ensure safe use of the crosswalk before and after school. Patrols will begin on Tuesday morning, and we kindly ask that vehicles not be parked within 5 meters of the crosswalk.

Additionally, we’d like to send a friendly reminder about the Kiss & Go area. This area is designated for families who are quickly dropping off their child, and we kindly ask that you do not leave your car parked in this space. A supervisor is stationed at the Kiss & Go each morning to greet students as they exit your vehicle and say goodbye. To support the flow of traffic, if you wish to park and walk your child to the school doors, please use parking spaces across the street or the stretch prior to the bus loop entrance, before the Kiss & Go area.

The coming weeks will be very busy at school with preparations for our Grade 1 & 2 Winter Celebration, followed by four spirit days the following week, including caroling in the gym each morning before Winter Break.

Winter Celebration

This year, our Winter Celebration will include students from Grade 1 & 2. We will host two performances for parents and family members to attend:

  • Afternoon Performance: Thursday, December 12, at 1:00 p.m. (No tickets required; doors open at 12:45 p.m.)
  • Evening Performance: Thursday, December 12, at 6:00 p.m. (Tickets required due to gymnasium capacity; doors open at 5:40 p.m.)

Students in Grade 1 & 2 will bring home two tickets per family on Monday for the evening performance (students who are performing do not require a ticket).

Message from Grade 3 - Calgary Food Drive - Final Days!

The Calgary Food Bank Drive at McKenzie Lake School ends on December 13. Please help support our community by bringing a non-perishable food item to donate. Donations will be accepted from students until December 13, and we encourage our Grade 1 & 2 families to drop off their contributions during the Winter Celebration on December 12. Let’s work together to make a difference this holiday season! Thank you for your generous support!

Sincerely,

Dayna McComish
