Dear McKenzie Lake Families,
This week our Grade 4 students visited the Composting Facility and Shepard Landfill. Leading up to this field trip, students had been learning about Waste and Our World in Science. This field trip extended their learning and students learned about items that should not be put into the garbage (e.g. electronics, tires), how much garbage has been reduced in Calgary since the introduction of the blue and green bins, and the phrase 'Reduce, Reuse Recycle' is actually worded in the order which we should prioritize our waste usage.
Kindergarten Families – A friendly reminder that there is no school for kindergarten students on Friday, December 15th.
Winter Celebration – Grade 3-5 students
On Monday, students in Grades 3-5 will be coming home with their two tickets/per family for the Winter Celebration. The doors will open at 5:45pm on Thursday, December 14, and a ticket will be required for each person entering. If you are unable to attend, please return your ticket(s) so that we can redistribute them to others that may be hoping for additional tickets.
Due to the capacity restrictions in our gymnasium, we are opening up an afternoon performance for families to attend, which will begin on Thursday, December 14 at 1:00pm. No tickets are required for the afternoon performance.
Scholastic Book Fair
Thank you to all the parent volunteers that helped with the Scholastic Book Fair. Without you and Mrs. Knox, this would not have been possible and students loved shopping for new books to enjoy at home. We will be having another book fair again in March during parent conferences.
Purdy's Chocolate Orders
Purdy's orders have arrived and are ready to be picked up at the main office. The main office is open at 7:15-3:15pm Monday-Thursday and 7:15am-1:15pm on Friday.  If you would like your orders to be sent home with your child, please email me to confirm dmmccomish@cbe.ab.ca.
Sincerely,
Dayna McComish
