Dear McKenzie Lake Families,

This week at our school has been exceptionally vibrant and bustling, with both grade 2 and grade 3 students embarking on exciting field trips. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers who generously dedicated their time to make these off-site experiences possible for our students.

The grade 2 students had a delightful and educational adventure at Heritage Park. The trip served as a fantastic complement to their ongoing classroom learning. Students had the opportunity to showcase their knowledge, engage in traditional Inuit games, practice sewing mittens, create their own pair of snow goggles, and explore authentic artifacts. This immersive experience was not only enjoyable but also enriched their understanding of the subjects they have been studying.

Meanwhile, the grade 3 students had an equally engaging field trip to Telus Spark. The highlight of their day was a hands-on program where they built Lego amusement park rides and utilized coding programs to set them in motion. Additionally, students explored the fascinating world of Leonardo Da Vinci and his inventions, gaining insights into simple machines and various forces at play. The experience was not only fun but also aligned seamlessly with their science curriculum, providing a tangible and real-world context to their learning.

These field trips have not only offered our students memorable experiences but have also allowed them to connect their in-class learning to the world beyond the school walls. We appreciate the enthusiastic participation of both students and volunteers, making these excursions both educational and enjoyable.

Grade 3 Assembly

We are delighted to extend a warm invitation to all family members to join us for a special assembly hosted by our talented Grade 3 students.  Students have been working diligently to prepare for this assembly.  They are eager to showcase their learning and achievements to you, their valued family members.  The assembly will begin at 1:45pm on Wednesday, February 28.  When you arrive at the school, please proceed to the gymnasium.  You are also invited to wear pink, for Pink Shirt Day at MLS.

Scholastic Book Fair

Book Fair Volunteers needed for our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair for March 18-22 during the school day and during the Parent Teacher Conferences. Please contact Mrs. Knox at caknox@cbe.ab.ca if you are interested in volunteering at the book fair.

Parking Bylaw Reminder

Our bus drivers has asked up to send a request to parents, asking them to follow the city bylaw in relation to parking 1.5 meters (approximately 5 feet) away from the driveway/entrance to the school.  When vehicles are parking too close, the buses have a difficult time turning onto McKenzie Lake Way without the risk of hitting the vehicles parked too close to the entrance/exit.  In addition, vehicles parked within 1.5 meters are a risk of being ticketed.

School Council Casino Fundraiser

Our School Council is gearing up for its largest fundraiser on June 25 & 26 at the Deerfoot Inn and Casino, and we are in need of your support. This event is crucial in funding a variety of initiatives, including learning resources, residences, Phys. Ed equipment, and field trips that greatly benefit our school community. No prior experience is necessary, as all training will be provided on-site. Volunteers will not be involved at the gaming tables but will assist in essential behind-the-scenes tasks such as delivering chips to tables and counting money. Your contribution, even for just one shift, will make a significant impact. Please consider signing up for a shift using the following link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0F4BA9A928A6F49-47524022-mckenzie. Feel free to share this link with friends and family who might be interested in volunteering. Your support is greatly appreciated, and together, we can make this fundraiser a success!
