Dear MLS Families,
This week, we were pleased to welcome Area V Director Ken Weipert and Superintendent Jennifer Turner to McKenzie Lake School. During their visit, they observed students participating in Fashion Show Friday—an MLS highlight. They also noted students using hallway movement activities, others completing a Focus Sequence, visible learning criteria in Division I and II classrooms during writing instruction, and the effective use of flexible seating.
Seeing students actively engaged in learning—and confidently speaking about the strategies they use to support their self-regulation—was a meaningful celebration for both staff and students to share with our guests. Before leaving, they shared many examples of the intentional practices, student-centered supports, and strong, positive school culture they observed throughout the school.
With the recent warm weather, some areas of the school grounds may include ice, mud, and puddles. While we encourage students to avoid these areas, some exposure is unavoidable. We recommend sending your child to school with waterproof footwear and packing an extra pair of socks and pants in their backpack.
Please note that the upcoming week is a short week for students. Schools are closed on Monday, February 16 for Family Day, and on Thursday and Friday due to Teachers’ Convention.
Sincerely,
Dayna McComish
