Dear McKenzie Lake Families,
This week, our Grade 1 students participated in a field trip to the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary as an extension of their science learning about Living Systems. During the visit, students engaged in hands-on learning centres and took on the role of “detectives.” They applied their knowledge of habitats, animal tracks, scat, physical characteristics, and food sources while searching for evidence of animals in their natural environment.
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the parent volunteers who supported each Grade 1 class and helped make this experience possible. Your support allowed us to extend learning beyond the classroom into a new environment—one that many students visited for the first time.
We would also like to thank our School Council for sponsoring a performance by the Alberta Musical Theatre Company, who presented Pinocchio to students on Monday. This engaging live performance featured three actors portraying multiple characters through humour and song, providing students with a unique opportunity to experience live theatre.
Our Student Leadership Team is encouraging students to dress up this coming Thursday to reflect their favourite Disney movie or character.
Finally, on Friday, January 23, we will be saying goodbye to Mrs. Cox as she is pursuing a new opportunity outside of the Calgary Board of Education. We would like to thank her for her many contributions to McKenzie Lake School over the past year and a half as a Grade 2 and Physical Education teacher. We are pleased to welcome Mrs. Skyla Dugas as our new Physical Education teacher, officially beginning on Monday, January 26.
Sincerely,
Dayna McComish
