Dear McKenzie Lake Families,

On December 22, we finished the last week of school for 2023 with a festive week filled with caroling together in the gym followed by Fashion Show Friday where the teachers modelled clothing from our Lost & Found in hopes that items would be claimed before Winter Break. Parents are invited to come into the main entrance of the school this week to identify personal items before remaining items are donated Friday, January 12.

With only a couple of days remaining before we welcome everyone back to school on Monday, we trust everyone had a wonderful holiday filled with the perfect of fun and relaxation with friends and family.  We experienced warm weather over the break unfortunately, it looks that the temperatures are taking a turn for the worse.  Please ensure your child comes to school dressed for the weather, as we are outside for recess unless it is -20oC or colder (with the wind-chill).  Often the mornings are cooler and by midafternoon, it is warm enough for students to have a fresh air break, so always come prepared for the possibility of outdoor recess.  Different website report from different areas of the city and temperatures vary, therefore the website we use to check the temperature is: https://www.theweathernetwork.com/ca/forecasts/school-day/alberta/mckenzie-lake-school

A Message from Mr. McEwen (Grade 5 teacher):

I am thrilled to announce that our recent fundraiser was a resounding success, and thanks to your incredible generosity, we have raised an impressive $540 earmarked for donation to the Mustard Seed homeless shelter. Alongside this achievement, our urgent needs drive saw an outpouring of support, with numerous essential items generously donated. Your contributions of clothing, hygiene products, non-perishable food items, and blankets will directly assist those in need within our community. Your kindness and commitment to making a difference are truly commendable. Thank you for embodying the spirit of compassion and community support in such a meaningful way.
