Dear McKenzie Lake Families,
This past week, our school engaged in the Just Like You program, which unfolded its transformative message in each grade. Aimed at fostering disability awareness and promoting diversity acceptance, the program set out to cultivate understanding, acceptance, and inclusion of individuals living with disabilities and differences. Each grade embarked on a unique journey during the first of two presentations. For our kindergarten students, the program wove tales that introduced them to the concept of disability and emphasized the importance of ensuring everyone gets to belong. Grades 1 and 2 delved into the celebration of uniqueness, instilling a fundamental understanding of why diversity is valued. Meanwhile, grades 3 and 4 explored the myriad forms of disabilities, from physical to invisible and sensory, instilling empathy for the challenges individuals with disabilities might encounter. In grade 5, preconceived notions about disabilities were challenged, prompting students to reflect on their contributions to both positive and negative mindsets. This engaging two-part series paves the way for our students to further participate in the upcoming second presentation, solidifying their commitment to inclusivity and understanding.

A message from our Grade 5 teachers:
Grade 5 students embarked on a field trip to Telus Spark on Thursday! The highlight of the trip for many was the exploration of the Da Vinci exhibit, where our budding inventors delved into the genius mind of Leonardo da Vinci and explored his early inventions and identified ones that now use electricity. They then let their imaginations soar in the mesmerizing space exhibit. With stars in their eyes, they came up with ideas for settings and problems to include in their space stories next week. Finally, our inquisitive learners dove into the world of chemistry and electricity by engaging in activities and interactive displays about the journey of power, from its origin to the very outlets that light up our homes. Some students even had the opportunity to explore virtual reality games and experiences. The grade five team would like to extend our thanks to the parent volunteers who joined us, making this opportunity for students possible.

School Council Casino Fundraiser
Our School Council is gearing up for its largest fundraiser on June 25 & 26 at the Deerfoot Inn and Casino, and we are in need of your support. This event is crucial in funding a variety of initiatives, including learning resources, residences, Phys. Ed equipment, and field trips that greatly benefit our school community. No prior experience is necessary, as all training will be provided on-site. Volunteers will not be involved at the gaming tables but will assist in essential behind-the-scenes tasks such as delivering chips to tables and counting money. Your contribution, even for just one shift, will make a significant impact. Please consider signing up for a shift using the following link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0F4BA9A928A6F49-47524022-mckenzie. Feel free to share this link with friends and family who might be interested in volunteering. Your support is greatly appreciated, and together, we can make this fundraiser a success!
