Dear MLS Families,
This week, our Grade 2 students did a wonderful job celebrating their learning with both the school and their families. They showcased their work in Social Studies and Science, focusing on the regions of Canada, as well as light and shadows and sound. Students then tested the audience to see if they were smarted than a 2nd grader, but including an interactive quiz, where students invited the audience to identify if items were opaque and transparent objects, and if sounds were natural and artificial.
At the end of the morning assembly, we also took a few moments to recognize staff members receiving Years of Service awards from the Calgary Board of Education. Congratulations to:
Teachers
Ms. Lloyd – 25 years of service
Mrs. Morrow – 25 years of service
Mrs. Smith – 20 years of service
Education Assistant
Ms. McGowean – 5 years of service
Readathon Update
Friday, May 8 will be an exciting day at MLS, as our Readathon winners’ step into the role of Teacher of the Day! To ensure our top four winners can fully participate as students this week, they will take on the roles of Principal, Assistant Principal, Music, and PE Teacher on May 22.
A BIG thank you to the 172 students who participated in the Readathon fundraiser! After a long Friday evening of counting, our School Council Chair shared that students raised an incredible $24,248.80. All funds will go toward building our new playground.
Amazing job, McKenzie Lake School!
Sincerely,
Ms. Dayna McComish
