Dear MLS Families,

On Wednesday, our Grade 3 students welcomed families into the school for their Conservation Champions Celebration of Learning, connected to their recent experiences at the Calgary Zoo. With mini-information tables set up throughout the school, families had the opportunity to learn about a variety of animals, including otters, polar bears, arctic fox and gray wolves.

If you visit these animals at the Calgary Zoo, you may notice QR codes linked to informational videos created by each class. If you were unable to attend the Celebration of Learning, or would like to explore the videos again, please use the links below:

Thursday began with students arriving in their beach attire and continued into the evening with our Family Beach Dance, which was a tremendous success! We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our School Council and all of the volunteers who helped organize this fun community event for families to connect and celebrate together. We would also like to recognize DJ Mark Sadler for generously volunteering his equipment, time, and expertise to help make each dance session such an enjoyable experience for students.

McKenzie Lake School Focus Sequence – Mental Health Week

During Mental Health Week, McKenzie Lake School was highlighted by the Calgary Board of Education for our implementation of the Focus Sequence to support student regulation and well-being. We are incredibly proud of our “rock star” Focus Sequence students, Abigail and Anson, who were featured in a short video demonstrating the sequence.

As you walk through the school, you may notice Focus Sequence stations set up throughout the hallways for students to access as needed. You can view the video and related story using the links below:

Monsters and Heroes

Last week, we highlighted the Monsters and Heroes Art Show featuring the work of our Grade 4 students. This week, we are excited to share a few examples demonstrating how our students’ artwork inspired pieces created by middle school, high school, and university artists.
