Dear McKenzie Lake Families,
This week MLS was filled with exciting and educational experiences for students across different grade levels. In Kindergarten, Microscope Mark from Mad Science visited, captivating the students with demonstrations on how toys work using various science concepts such as gravity, magnetism, spinning, balancing, and energy. Each Kindergarten student received a "spring thing" energy toy to take home, enhancing their understanding of these scientific principles through hands-on exploration.
Meanwhile, some grade 2 classes delved into the world of coding through a presentation called Teacher's Pet. The presenter emphasized the importance of logical and specific instructions when giving commands. Students began by mimicking these instructions with their bodies, then progressed to coding activities on a large grid mat. Additionally, they utilized grid paper to program a robotic mouse to find pretend cheese. To further their understanding, students constructed mazes with popsicle sticks and programmed the mouse to navigate through them. Next week, other grade 2 classes will have the opportunity to engage in a similar coding experience.
In Grade 5, students collaborated with Stream of Dreams to complete their legacy project, which involved adding their painted fish to a mural on the fence by the west playground. Despite the chilly weather on Thursday, parent volunteers generously assisted in assembling and varnishing the fish, ensuring their vibrant display on the fence. Their dedication and support are greatly appreciated.
As the week concludes, we extend wishes for a delightful long weekend to everyone, with anticipation for the return to school on Tuesday, May 21st.
Volunteer Tea
As the school year draws to a close, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude to all of our wonderful volunteers who have contributed their time and efforts to McKenzie Lake School throughout the year. Your support in various capacities has made a significant difference in enriching the experiences of our students and enhancing our school community.
Whether you have been involved with School Council, accompanied us on field trips, assisted in the library or with the book fair, spent time reading with students, or even contributed to classroom activities like making playdough, your dedication has not gone unnoticed.
In recognition of your invaluable contributions, we would like to invite all volunteers to join us for our Volunteer Tea on June 7th. This will be an opportunity for us to express our appreciation in person and to celebrate the collective effort that has positively impacted our school.
