Dear McKenzie Lake Families,

After visiting the Calgary Zoo this week, grade 3 students were buzzing with excitement, eager to share what they'd learned about polar bears. They discovered that polar bears are super patient when hunting seals, but they only catch one about 2 out of every 100 tries! Also, polar bears have fur that looks see-through but actually has black skin underneath. During their program, they thought about how they could help polar bears survive in the changing Arctic. They realized they could do things like using less electricity to help fight global warming and not littering in the ocean because polar bears might eat it by mistake. They were also surprised to learn about baby gorillas—they have a special white spot on their bottoms that lets them get away with things until it disappears!

Meanwhile, the PM Kindergarten students had a blast at Butterfield Acres, enjoying all the fun activities the AM Kindergarten classes did last week. A big thanks goes out to our volunteers and School Council for covering the cost of transportation for these awesome field trips!

Sincerely,
