Dear MLS Families,
Our week ended with plenty of excitement as our Readathon winners stepped into the role of Teacher of the Day. Visiting classrooms throughout the day, it was wonderful to see so many students taking their responsibilities very seriously — supporting small groups with writing, planning math extensions for classmates they felt were “really good at math,” and even adding a few fun twists such as extended recesses and karaoke activities! On May 22, we look forward to seeing what our top four fundraisers have planned as they take over the roles of Principal, Assistant Principal, Music Teacher, and Physical Education Teacher.
This week also included nine classes heading out on field trips, including our Grade 1 students visiting the Sam Centre and our Grade 3 students exploring the Calgary Zoo. These experiences would not be possible without the support of our volunteers, and we would like to sincerely thank everyone who gave their time to help make these opportunities happen.
On Thursday, our Grade 3 students proudly presented to guests at the Calgary Zoo as Conservation Champions. This coming Wednesday, May 13, they will once again showcase their learning with information booths set up throughout the school for classes and families to visit during scheduled times. Grade 3 families are invited to arrive at 1:30 p.m. to tour the displays and speak with students about their projects. Additional information will be shared directly by classroom teachers.
On Friday evening, many of our Grade 4 families travelled downtown to visit The New Gallery for the Monsters and Heroes Art Show. Earlier this year, Grade 4 students submitted drawings that were then used as inspiration by middle school, high school, and university artists. Students attending the event were excited to locate their original artwork and discover how other artists had incorporated their ideas into new creations. We will be sharing some photos from the exhibit with families soon.
Thursday, May 14, students are invited to dress in beach attire for our school Beach Day. For those attending the Family Dance that evening, they will already be dressed for the beach theme! School Council will also have chips available for purchase for $1 and water for $2.
The pre-purchased dance tickets will be sent home with students on Monday. Tickets are colour-coded to indicate your assigned session time, which will also be printed directly on the ticket
Sincerely
Ms. Dayna McComish
