Dear McKenzie Lake Families,

Next week we are looking forward to welcoming parents and guardians into the school for our November conferences on Thursday and Friday.  This is a great opportunity for you to connect with your child's teacher to discuss their current achievement and next steps for the remainder of Term 1.  If you have yet to schedule a conference time, please log into your MyCBE account and go to My Conferences. Kindergarten families, please note that students do not attend school on Thursday or Friday.

This past week was Metis Week, which is a week to celebrate Metis culture, history, and contributions.  Throughout the week, many students engaged in learning related to Metis Week through story and art.  Starting next week students will be visiting the MLS Art Gallery where we have set up the art exhibition titled ReconciliACTIONS, featuring several Indigenous Artists, with the support of The Alberta Foundation for the Arts.  The exhibition will also be set up during conferences, so be sure to stop by and enjoy the amazing artwork on display.

Winter Celebration

Parents with children in Grades 3-5, mark your calendars for Thursday, December 14.  Ms. Kvicala is working with students to prepare a Winter Celebration and inviting parents to attend one of two performances.  Due to the capacity restrictions in our gymnasium, we are able to provide each family with two tickets to the evening performance that will begin at 6:00pm.  We are also opening up an afternoon performance for families to attend, which will begin at 1:00pm.  (Our Spring Celebration will include students in Grades K-2)

MLS Family Dance

Our School Council is looking into organizing a Family Dance in the month of March.  In order to host evening events such as this, many volunteers are required to plan, set up, supervise and clean up.  If you are available to support in anyway, please email mlschoolcouncil@gmail.com.  In your email, please include your first/last name, phone number and how you would like to contribute to helping make this event possible.  At the December School Council meeting, they will determine if they had enough people express interest in volunteering to make a school dance possible.

Sincerely,

Dayna McComish
