Dear MLS Families,
The first half of our soccer residency has come to a close. During this residency, students learned soccer skills while demonstrating a willingness to try new activities and games. Some of our EES students had the opportunity to engage in a game of Unified Soccer, where students from other classes joined in the gym over the lunch hour with the support of Soccer John and teachers. We look forward to Soccer John returning in April, for the second half of this residency sponsored by our School Council.
We are looking forward to welcoming families into the school this coming Thursday and Friday for Parent Conferences. It is our hope that teachers will meet with each student’s parent/guardian to discuss their child’s current achievement and next learning steps. If you have yet to signed up for a conference time, please do so this weekend through your MyCBE account. Please note that Kindergarten students do not have school on Thursday, as their conferences will be taking place throughout the day and evening.
On Thursday evening, starting at 3:30 p.m., our School Council has arranged for food trucks to be available for families wishing to purchase supper or dessert as they leave their conference.
Lost and Found
Our Lost and Found has grown significantly, and we encourage all parents to stop by during conferences to claim any familiar items. For families interested in labeling personal belongings, you may order through Mabel’s Labels and choose to support the McKenzie Lake School fundraiser when placing your order. Picture Retakes
Picture Retake Day is Monday, November 24. If you would like your child to have their photo retaken, please email their teacher before Monday morning to ensure they are sent at the appropriate time.
Food Bank Drive
Our Grade 5 students have organized a Food Bank Drive in support of the Calgary Food Bank, running from November 27 to December 16. If you are able, please consider bringing a non-perishable, unopened, and non-expired food item during conferences. Donation boxes will be located at the main entrance. Students may also bring donations to school until the morning of December 16. Thank you for your generosity and for supporting families in our community.
Winter Celebration
Our Grade 4 and 5 students, along with the Choir, have been practicing each week during lunch in preparation for the Winter Celebration on Thursday, December 11. This will be an evening event for families to attend. Due to gymnasium capacity limits, each student will receive two admission tickets for the performance. (Students in Grades K–3 will host a performance in the spring.)
Sincerely,
Dayna McComish
