Dear McKenzie Lake Families,
On Wednesday evening, I had the pleasure of sharing some exciting learning highlights from the Grade 5 team during our School Council meeting. One of the key moments was the leadership our Grade 5 students demonstrated in leading the Remembrance Day assembly. Additionally, this week they opened a "Travel Agency" for other classes to explore. Students thoroughly enjoyed hearing the Grade 5 students present about the regions of Canada and viewing their impressive 3D models. This hands-on, interactive experience provided a meaningful way for students to learn about Calgary’s landforms, and gave them the chance to celebrate their hard work with students from other grades. Some of the questions posed by our younger students were both thoughtful and inquisitive. If they were inspired by any slogans from the Travel Agency, perhaps "Interior Plains... There’s Nothing Plain Here!" will spark their next travel adventure!
Meanwhile, our Grade 4 students enjoyed their first field trip of the year to the Telus Spark Science Centre, where they participated in the Marvel Magnets program. Through a series of interactive investigation stations, students explored the fascinating world of magnetism, learning about the push and pull of magnetic forces and how non-contact forces interact with various materials. A special thank you to all the parent volunteers whose time and support helped make this memorable experience possible.
We look forward to welcoming parents on Thursday and Friday next week for conferences. If you have yet to book your interview time with the teacher, please log into your MyCBE account to schedule your time. If you require assistance, you can email your child’s teacher or call the main office at 403-777-6500.
Sincerely,
Dayna McComish
A Message from our Grade 3 Team
The Grade 3 classes are proud to lead this year’s Calgary Food Bank Drive to address a major social issue impacting our city—food insecurity. Many Calgarian’s face challenges putting food on the table, and together, we can make a difference.
When:
- Donation Start Date: Monday, November 25
- Final Collection Date: Friday, December 13 (the day after our Winter Celebration)
How to Help:
- Students: Bring non-perishable food items to school.
- Families: Drop off donations during parent-student conferences or send items with your child.
By working together as a community, we can help ensure that every family in Calgary has enough to eat this winter. Let’s make this drive a success!
