Dear MLS Families,

This week, students enjoyed their first sessions with Soccer John—refining their current skills and being introduced to new ones. He will return on November 17, 18, and 20. A huge thank-you to our School Council for funding this amazing experience for our students! Soccer is a popular game during recess and lunch, and the residency is helping students not only develop their skills but also build a shared understanding of the rules and sportsmanship—benefiting our MLS community well beyond the program itself.

On Friday, students gathered in the gym for our Remembrance Day assembly. Audrey and Tenley did an outstanding job as emcees, with Jessica delivering a thoughtful Land Acknowledgement. The assembly featured a performance from Mrs. Talerico’s class and a song by our Grade 5 students. Even with only a few days back at school, students performed beautifully—as though they had been practicing for weeks!

We would also like to thank Sailor First Class John Bauer for joining us and speaking to our students. He made meaningful connections to our anchor text, The Circles All Around Us, reminding us of the importance of recognizing those who have served—both in the past and present—within our close circles (family), our extended circles (community), and even beyond, where the actions of others have ensured our freedom.

Today’s snowfall was a gentle reminder that winter has arrived! Students love playing in the snow, and it’s important that they come dressed appropriately so they can stay warm and dry during recess and lunch. If your family needs assistance accessing winter clothing (snow pants, jackets, boots, mitts, or toques), please email me—we’ll do our best to help locate what you need.

Have a wonderful Fall Break, and we look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday, November 13.

A Message for the McKenzie Lake School Council

We’re excited to announce the dates for our upcoming Casino Fundraiser—January 15 & 16! This is a fantastic opportunity to support McKenzie Lake School, and we’re looking for volunteers to help fill a variety of roles.

No experience? No problem! Volunteers receive full support, and it’s a great way to meet other parents and contribute to our school community.

This is our primary fundraising event and typically raises over $50,000 to directly support students at McKenzie Lake School. It also contributes to our playground fundraising efforts.
