Dear McKenzie Lake Families,
As we enjoy the beautiful fall weather, forecasts indicate we may experience our first snowfall of the year on Monday. This is often the time families’ start sorting through last year's winter clothing to see what still fits and what new items might be needed.
For those who are new to Canada, I want to clarify that students will go outside for recess in the snow. The only exception is if temperatures drop below -20°C, including wind chill, in which case students will stay indoors. With cooler temperatures approaching faster than we might like, it’s essential for students to come to school dressed appropriately for playing in the snow and slush.
We understand that financial constraints can impact the ability to purchase all necessary winter gear. Fortunately, the MLS community is wonderful at supporting one another by donating used snow pants, jackets, and boots that their children have outgrown. If your family requires assistance with winter clothing (jackets, snow pants, boots), please email me this week with the specific items and sizes needed. In next week's Admin Message, I will share a list of requested items and sizes, encouraging families to donate what they can.
Additionally, Mrs. Huurman's grade 3 class is preparing for a week at the YMCA as part of the Healthy Living Open Minds/Campus Calgary program. She is seeking volunteers with completed police clearance to assist on October 24, 28, 29, 30, and/or 31. If you can help, please email Mrs. Huurman at elhuurman@cbe.ab.ca, or sign up using this link: https://volunteersignup.org/JDJAK.
A friendly reminder, Friday, October 25 is a Professional Learning Day, and there is no school for students.
Picture Retake Day
Tuesday, October 22 is Picture Retake Day. If you would like your child to have their picture taken, please email their classroom teacher before October 22 to request they be sent down to get their photo taken.
School Council Fundraiser
Our School Council is currently running a Purdy’s Chocolate fundraiser. This is a great opportunity for parents to order chocolates to enjoy over the Winter Break, or find stocking stuffers to those that are not on Santa’s naughty list. The deadline to place orders is December 1, and they will be delivered to the school before Winter Break and available for pick up. https://fundraising.purdys.com/join.aspx/1364677-121468
Sincerely,
