Dear McKenzie Lake Families,
The forecast for next week suggests we can anticipate cooler days than we have be enjoying and potentially starting our Monday morning with some snow. It is important that students come prepared to be outside, with proper footwear, jackets, mitts and toques, etc. on cold days. Students go outside for recess, unless the temperature is -20oC. In preparation for winter, if you require assistance to acquire outdoor winter clothes for your child(ren), please email me and we will try our best to collect what is needed (e.g. winter coat, boots, snow pants) before the cold weather arrives.
We have a few extra-curricular activities that students have been participating in over the lunch hour at MLS, and further opportunities will emerge throughout the year for each grade. Mr. McEwen's Dungeons and Dragons Club continues to meet every Tuesday at lunch and new opportunities for students have recently started, including Art/Colouring Club, Grade 5 Origami Club and Grade 3-5 Choir.
Picture Retakes
On Tuesday, October 24, students have the opportunity to get their school photo take if they were absent on Picture Day or if you would like they to try again for that perfect school photo to purchase. If you would like your child to get their photo taken on Retake Day, please email their teachers by Monday, October 23.
Grade 4 Assembly
On Thursday, October 26, our Grade 4 students are inviting guests to attend their assembly. They are excited to share with their parents, and have been hard a work rehearsing over the past couple weeks. The assembly will start promptly at 1:30pm; therefore, we encourage those attending to arrive between 1:15-1:20pm to ensure you do not miss any of their performances.
Halloween Information
Looking ahead, October 31 is a day that most students look forward to, as it is an opportunity to dress up and wear a costume to school for Halloween. Dressing up in a costume is optional for those wanting to participate. If your child is choosing a costume to wear to school, please remember that it needs to be something they are able to participate in all school activities, include physical education and music. Facemasks can be saved for their evening trick-or-treating, and toy weapons need to remain at home. Those not interested in wearing a costume, alternatively could wear orange/black or their pajamas that day instead.
As a reminder: We are an allergy aware school, students are not able to distributed editable items to their friends or classrooms.
Sincerely,
Dayna McComish
