Dear MLS Families,
It was wonderful to see so many families attend our first School Council meeting on Wednesday evening. School Council is a great opportunity to learn more about what is happening at the school and to become involved in planning school events, activities, and fundraisers. We encourage all families to consider joining us throughout the year!
We were also thrilled to see so many of you at our Open House on Thursday evening. It was wonderful to see students and families connecting with one another, touring the school, visiting classrooms, and meeting our staff. It was a fun and casual way to bring our school community together as we begin the new school year.
Our first formal Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place in November. This will provide families with an opportunity to schedule a one-on-one meeting with their child’s teacher to discuss their child’s progress and learning.
Flames Foundation Residency
This week, we are excited to welcome the Flames Foundation to McKenzie Lake School for a physical education residency. Sponsored by our School Council, this program will take place this week and return for an additional week in the spring.
During the residency, students will have the opportunity to learn and participate in ball hockey and flag football. We are grateful to our School Council for supporting this exciting opportunity for our students!
Terry Fox School Run
McKenzie Lake School is excited to participate in the Terry Fox School Run on Monday, September 28, 2026.
Terry started a marathon of hope against cancer, and together, we can help finish what he started.
Our MLS goal is to raise $1,600. If you would like to help us reach our goal, you can send a donation (Toonies for Terry) to school with your child or donate online: https://schools.terryfox.ca/136651.
If every student brings in just $2, we will raise more than $1,200 toward our goal!
Donations will be collected until Monday, September 28.
Thank you for supporting our students and our school community as we come together to support the Terry Fox Foundation and the fight against cancer. Together, we can finish what Terry started!
Orange Shirt Day
The Government of Canada proclaimed Sept. 30th as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Because this day is being observed and there is no school on Sept. 30th, students and staff at McKenzie Lake School will acknowledge our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation on Sept 29th. Everyone is encouraged to wear an orange shirt to recognize the importance of this day.
For more information on Orange Shirt Day, please see: https://orangeshirtday.org/
Sincerely,
Dayna McComish
