Dear McKenzie Lake Families,
We enjoyed welcoming families into the school on Thursday and Friday for our first conferences of the school year. This was a great opportunity for you to see your child's learning space, meet the teacher and hear about their first weeks of school. Teachers also appreciate the opportunity for parents to come and share information about their child that will support student success throughout the school year: socially, emotionally and academically.
September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, originally and still informally known as Orange Shirt Day.  Orange Shirt Day was created as an opportunity to discuss the effects of residential schools and their legacy in Canada.  It honours the experiences of Indigenous Peoples, celebrates resilience and affirms a commitment that every child matters.   Thursday, September 28 will be Orange Shirt Day at McKenzie Lake School.  Students will be engaging in learning related to the significance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation throughout the week and on Thursday students will gather for an assembly led by Ms. Kvicala.
*Reminder – No school for students on Friday, September 29.
Library Volunteers & Book Fair
Mrs. Knox is seeking a few volunteers to support in the library on a weekly basis.  She is hoping to find someone that is available on Thursday mornings and another with availability Thursday afternoons.
We also have two Scholastic Book Fairs scheduled for this year (Dec 4-8 and Mar 18-22), where volunteers are required throughout the day to help set up, support with pre-sale visits, book sales and take down.
If you are interested in volunteer for any of these opportunities, please contact Mrs. Knox at caknox@cbe.ab.ca.

Sincerely,
Dayna McComish
