Dear McKenzie Lake Families,

On Thursday morning, students attended our Orange Shirt Day assembly, led my Ms. Kvicala. Orange Shirt Day was first established as an observance in 2013, as part of an effort to promote awareness and education of the Canadian residential school system and the impact it has had on Indigenous communities for over a century.  Leading up to the assembly, students engaged in classroom learning related to the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.  It was wonderful to see so many staff and students wearing orange to recognize the experience of those who went to Indian residential schools, to honour them, and show a collective commitment to ensure that Every Child Matters.

This past week, we also had our very first fire drill practice of the school year.  Students did an excellent job of leaving the school in a safe and quiet manner, meeting at our muster location.  We hope to have our second practice during the month of October.

Library Volunteers & Book Fair

Mrs. Knox is seeking a few volunteers to support in the library on a weekly basis.  She is hoping to find someone that is available on Thursday mornings and another with availability Thursday afternoons.

We also have two Scholastic Book Fairs scheduled for this year (Dec 4-8 and Mar 18-22), where volunteers are required throughout the day to help set up, support with pre-sale visits, book sales and take down.

If you are interested in volunteer for any of these opportunities, please contact Mrs. Knox at caknox@cbe.ab.ca.
