Dear MLS Families, It was wonderful to see everyone outside this morning! There was such a positive energy as students reconnected with friends after the summer break and met their classroom teachers for the 2026–2027 school year. I believe there was equal excitement from students as they prepared to begin a new school year and from parents as they prepared to once again entrust their children to the care of their teachers! By 8:10 a.m., students were settled into their classrooms and engaged in their first activity with their teacher. What a wonderful start to the school year! Our School-Wide Anchor Text: The Magical YetThis year, we are beginning our school year with a special school-wide anchor text: The Magical Yet by Angela DiTerlizzi. Grade 1–5 teachers introduced the book to their students today, and we are excited to use its message as a springboard for learning, growth, perseverance, and embracing the idea that we may not be able to do something…YET! So, when you ask your child, “What did you do at school today?” and receive the classic response, “I can’t remember,” you can try asking: “What is the Magical Yet?” We hope this will spark some great conversations at home about what your child is learning, what they are working toward, and the things they may not be able to do yet! Morning Arrival RoutineStarting tomorrow, students may enter the school through one of our three main doors beginning at 7:50 a.m.:
Students should proceed directly to their classroom after entering the school. Learning begins at 8:00 a.m. The exterior doors will close at 8:00 a.m. Students arriving after this time will need to enter through the Main Entrance, check in at the office, and then proceed to class. Please note that parents are not able to walk with their child to the classroom. There will be staff available to welcome students and assist anyone who may need help finding their way. Open HouseWe are excited to invite families to our Open House on Thursday, September 17, from 6:00–7:00 p.m. This is an opportunity for families to come into the school, tour the building, visit your child’s classroom, and meet their teacher. Thank you for helping us maintain accurate attendance records and ensuring we know where our students are each day. Parking InformationAs students become familiar with their school-entry routine, parents are encouraged to use the Kiss & Go to pull over, allow their child to exit the vehicle, and then continue on their way. Ms. McComish will be walking along the Kiss & Go sidewalk each morning to support students as they arrive. The Kiss & Go is located along McKenzie Lake Way and runs between the bus loop entrance and the crosswalk. Please do not park or leave your vehicle in this area, as it is intended for Kiss & Go use only. Keeping this area moving helps ease traffic congestion during morning drop-off. If you would like to park and walk your child to the school door, you may park along the chain-link fence leading toward the bus loop or on the opposite side of the street, closest to the lake. Please do not park close to or in the bus loop entrance or exit. Doing so creates significant challenges when our buses are unable to safely turn into the bus loop to drop off or pick up students. No vehicles are permitted in the staff parking lot at any point throughout the day, with the exception of vehicles displaying a valid accessible parking pass. City Bylaw – Dogs on School GroundsA reminder to our school community that, according to the City of Calgary Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw, dogs are not permitted on school grounds in the City of Calgary or around playgrounds.
