Dear Students and Parents/Guardians
This letter is to inform you that McKenzie Lake School, the overflow receiver school for Cranston School, has reached its capacity. As a result, McKenzie Lake School will be unable to accommodate any additional Seton students that are being overflowed from Cranston School.
Effective immediately, all new kindergarten to Grade 4 registrations for students living in the community of Seton, at Cranston School who cannot be accommodated, will be designated to McKenzie Towne School.
- McKenzie Towne School is located in the community of McKenzie Towne at 679 Prestwick Cir SE Calgary.
Seton kindergarten to Grade 4 students attending the current overflow location McKenzie Lake School can choose to move to McKenzie Towne School or remain at McKenzie Lake School. However, after this school year they will be considered out-of- attendance area students. Transportation will not be available after June 2027.
All kindergarten to Grade 4 students attending either overflow school will be on a call- back list and offered a place at Cranston School if space becomes available.
The CBE strives to provide options to keep siblings together at a single school. Families with a Grade 4 student who is unsuccessful in the lottery, whose sibling is attending Dr. George Stanley School for the 2026-27 school year, may choose to register all children at McKenzie Highlands School.
There are no changes for other students attending Cranston School or McKenzie Lake School.
Why was Seton overflowed to McKenzie Lake a few years ago and now being re-designated again?
The CBE experienced unprecedented growth since 2021, and changes need to be made to manage enrolment in our schools. McKenzie Lake School is approaching capacity due to growth from designated communities. McKenzie Towne School, located close to Mackenzie Lake can offer more space for students.
Can modular classrooms (“portables”) be added to Cranston School?
No, the Cranston School site is unable to accommodate additional modular classrooms.
How do I register for school next year?
Registrations for the 2026-27 school year starts in January 2026. For more information on how to register, please visit our website.
How will students get to school?
Seton students currently in Grade 3 who remain at McKenzie Lake School will continue to have access to transportation services for the 2026-27 school year.
Seton School students, currently in kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 who remain at McKenzie Lake School, will be considered out-of-attendance area students starting in the 2026-27 school year. Students may apply for transportation as conditional riders, which is approved based on space at existing stops.
Students are eligible for transportation to their designated school if they live beyond the walk zone. Visit Busing & Transportationfor more information. All transportation from the Seton community to McKenzie Lake School will end on June 30, 2027.
You can learn more about CBE’s transportation service levels and fees, and how to register for the upcoming school year on our website.
